Safety Issue

Vehicles may experience thermal overload which may show as smoke or fire, that may occur underneath the vehicle where the high-voltage battery is located. An update to the BECM is required to provide enhanced diagnostics software that will monitor the battery pack assembly operational status.

Enhanced BECM Diagnostics

  • Monitors battery pack operational status continuously
  • Detects conditions that may lead to overheating
  • Automatic charging limitation to 75% when risk detected
  • Sets DTC P1B48-00 (Hybrid/EV Battery Voltage Deviation)

Warning Message

"OK to drive with caution
Traction battery fault detected"

If this warning appears after the recall update, customers should seek immediate Retailer assistance for diagnosis and repair.

The vehicle remains drivable with caution, and charging will be automatically restricted to 75%.

Software Deployment Phases

1

Phase 1 (Current)

  • Enhanced detection of thermal overload risk
  • Automatic 75% charging limitation
  • Full battery replacement if fault detected
  • Available via TOPIx Cloud and SOTA (21-24MY)
2

Phase 2 (Late July 2023+)

  • Module-level diagnostic capability
  • Identify individual defective battery modules
  • Battery lid-off repairs possible
  • Replace individual modules (not complete battery)

Safety Precautions (Before & 30 Days After Update)

Park Away from Structures

Park in open areas away from buildings and structures whenever possible

Charge Outside

Charge your vehicle outside where possible, avoiding enclosed garages

75% Charge Limit

Limit charging to maximum 75% until 30 days after software update

Important: After 30 days from recall completion, customers may resume normal charging to 100% and regular parking habits if no warning message has appeared.

How to Set 75% Charging Limit
